African-American Breast Cancer Awareness Brunch

October 5, 2019 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm

African-American Breast Cancer Awareness Brunch

The East Madison Community Center is hosting a Women’s Breast Cancer Education Brunch on Saturday, October 5, 2019 from 11am to 1pm. This is an outreach and education event specifically for African American women.

African American women are 40% more likely to die of breast cancer than their white counterparts. East Madison Community Center sits in the Truax neighborhood, which is a community that is majority black and majority women head of households. A Truax resident, Typhanny, has spearheaded this event after going through breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and recovery. She wants to assure that all her neighbors and fellow women receive the care they need and deserve!

The event will feature Erin Bailey, a guest speaker from the UW Health Disparities Initiative, as well as two women from the neighborhood sharing their breast cancer journeys.

Brunch will be served and goodie bags will be provided for attendees.

The event is co-supported by East Madison Community Center, Joining Forces for Families, Public Health Madison & Dane County, UW-Cancer Health Disparities Initiative and the WI Well Woman Program.
