This week in HIV research: The reality of disparity

It has long been a common refrain among HIV educators that the virus doesn’t discriminate — that a person’s demographic characteristics are not in themselves an inherent component of HIV’s ability to infect. This may be true, but we as a clinical community have also done a better job in recent years of acknowledging the massive array of factors that result in huge HIV-related disparities between communities. Acknowledgement is only the first step, of course — but it’s an important one. It’s much easier to change the reality when a critical mass of us can clearly see it. Read more …
